Parliamentary Hearings “40 Years of the Chornobyl Disaster”

On April 16, 2026, representatives of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute took part in hearings of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans’ Rights titled: “40 Years of the Chornobyl Disaster: Present Realities and Future Challenges.” The participants included the Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, Oleksandr Galkin, and the Dean of the Faculty of Automation, Industrial Engineering and Ecology, Olena Ivanenko.

Among the speakers at the hearings were a member of the University Supervisory Board and President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Vasyl Lazoryshynets, as well as the Director of the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants of NAS of Ukraine and Professor of the Department of Nuclear Power Engineering at Igor Sikorsky KPI, Anatolii Nosovskyi.

The discussions also addressed a range of issues, including the medical, social, and environmental consequences of the Chornobyl disaster.

It should be noted that on April 22, an All-Ukrainian scientific conference titled “The Chornobyl Disaster: Medical, Environmental, and Social Consequences After 40 Years” will be held at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
