The Department of Translational Medical Bioengineering was established in 2018. The department’s focus is on the engineering and technological foundations of translational medicine, a modern field that ensures the rapid implementation (translation) of fundamental discoveries in the field of natural sciences into healthcare practice.

Regenerative medicine aims to restore disease-affected or damaged (injured) tissue using cell therapy methods.

Biopharmaceutical engineering is an interdisciplinary scientific and technical field aimed at developing and producing therapeutic, prophylactic and diagnostic products (drugs) of biological origin (vaccines, blood and its components, allergens, gene therapeutic constructs, tissues, recombinant proteins, living cells for cell therapy, etc.)

The educational process and scientific research are provided by highly qualified staff, including 6 members of the teaching staff (one professor, three associate professors, a senior lecturer and an assistant).

The educational programme includes a wide range of disciplines that are necessary for the development and implementation of modern biomedical technologies and which form the following competences in students

  • understanding, ability to analyse and manage biological processes (biological disciplines).
  • understanding of the essence of pathological and physiological processes in the human or animal body (medical disciplines).
  • understanding, ability to organise and manage technological processes involving biological objects (technological disciplines).
  • ability to create and select engineering and hardware design of technologies, including the use of software (engineering disciplines).
  • the ability to create and implement technological and engineering solutions taking into account legal requirements for the quality, safety and efficacy of biological products and technologies, as well as the rules of bioethics and biosafety (regulatory disciplines).
