Implementation period: 2020-2021.

Title: Development of the concept of specialist training and professional development in biosafety and biosecurity.

Results: The concept of training specialists in biosafety and biodefense was developed, namely: the educational program “Biosafety and biodefense” specialty 163 – Biomedical engineering for students of the second (master’s) level of higher education. • The concept of improving the qualifications of employees of enterprises (institutions) of various industries and military personnel in matters of biosafety and biosecurity management at various levels (local, regional, national) has been developed (including the educational plan). • Educational and methodological support for the training and retraining of biosafety and biosecurity specialists has been developed (textbooks and training manuals on the discipline, which are elements of the relevant educational program). • The concept and regulations on educational-practical and educational-scientific laboratories with: modeling of biothreats and biosafety management were developed; identification of biohazards. Supplying the labor market and specialized institutions and organizations with modern qualified biosafety and biosecurity specialists will allow for domestic high-tech development of methods and means of combating biothreats, management and biosafety at various levels (local, regional and national) – for the needs of national security, the state economy, effective and safe functioning of institutions, enterprises and organizations, as well as ensuring the health of citizens and the normal functioning of the natural environment.

Grant of the National Research Fund of Ukraine 2020.01/0226

Deadline: October 2020-2021.

Title: Experimental study of the effectiveness and safety of the use of new phytochemical and bacterial drugs for the treatment of coronavirus and other common infections.

Purpose: The pharmacotherapeutic and phytochemical design of a complex herbal preparation with expected antiviral activity was carried out: promising medicinal plants containing flavonoids and a favorable raw material base in Ukraine were identified (Apium graveolens, Arctium lappa, Calendula officinalis, Filipendula vulgaris, Galium verum, Humulus lupulus, Linaria vulgaris , Petroselinum crispum, Sophora japonica). The identification and research of the content of biologically active substances in selected medicinal plant raw materials, primarily flavonoids, was carried out. The phytochemical and pharmacotherapeutic design of preparations based on various medicinal plant raw materials, which are promising for medicine, was carried out prevention of coronavirus and other widespread human infections. A laboratory technology for obtaining a complex phytopreparation, methods of its quality control were developed, and experimental series of the drug based on medicinal plant raw materials were obtained.

Principal investigator: Zadorozhnya Viktoriya, member-cor. NAMNU, Doctor of Medicine, Professor.

KPI is a co-executor of the grant. It is carried out at the Department of Translational Medical Bioengineering, the head is Lutsenko Tetyana Mykolaivna, Ph.D., associate professor.

No. 0223U000145 (initiative)

Implementation period: 2017-10.11.2022.

Title: “Methods and models of identification of states of biological objects”.

Results: New approaches have been developed to solve the actual problems of automated diagnostics in the class of medical problems “norma-pathology”, differentiation of relatives by clinical manifestations of diseases, problems of assessing the patient’s condition. The developed projects are based on research and new results in the field of texture analysis, algorithms for the construction of classifiers in the Random Forest class, modeling of hybrid classifiers based on convolutional networks and self-organized forests, class-oriented selection technologies in classification tasks with an excessively large number of features. The obtained results made it possible to effectively solve the task of automated diagnosis based on ultrasound images of the normal-pathological state in diffuse liver diseases and coronary heart disease, diagnosis and classification of the types of lesions (ground glass, cobblestone, consolidation) of the lungs based on CT images in the case of Covid-19, differentiation on CT images of the lungs of chemoresistant and chemosensitive forms of tuberculosis.
