2. Main scientific areas of the faculty:

3. Support for researchers: At FBMI, the educational and scientific laboratories of the departments provide training and conducting scientific research. Research laboratories have specially equipped premises for research. These rooms can be equipped with specialized equipment that is required for specific studies. These can be devices, apparatus, computers, software and other specialized equipment.

4. Conferences and seminars: Seminars and scientific conferences are held annually at the FBMI in the areas of work of the departments, where postgraduate students can present their research. More information can be found on the Conferences and seminars page.

5. Mentoring and consulting: The total number of professors and teachers of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering: 136 people, of which 14 are doctors of science, 47 are candidates of science, the vast majority of whom can be supervisors of graduate students, available for consulting and mentoring

6. Internship and cooperation: Postgraduate students have wide opportunities for internships in partner organizations or universities, opportunities for cooperation with other scientific groups both in Ukraine and abroad.

7. Funding and grants: The standard period of training for a doctor of philosophy in postgraduate studies is four years. The size of the scholarship for a full-time graduate student is UAH 7,264 per month for applicants from Ukraine. For foreign graduate students, more information can be found on the Postgraduate course page of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Grant funds can also be used for conducting scientific research. Grant funds can come from a variety of sources, such as government agencies, non-profit organizations, private companies, and international foundations.

8. Career opportunities: After the defense of the thesis, you have various opportunities for further career. It all depends on your research direction, personal goals and plans.

Admission of foreign citizens to postgraduate studies (doctoral studies) at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is subject to the following conditions:
  • Master’s degree (specialist);
  • successful completion of the entrance examination;
  • invitation for study.

Documents for postgraduate studies are accepted throughout the year.  The beginning of studies is 1 October.

List of documents to be submitted for postgraduate studies:

  1. application for admission to postgraduate studies;
  2. a copy of the master’s (specialist’s) degree with indication of the speciality (qualification) obtained, and a copy of the appendix to it (with translation into Ukrainian and notarised). Persons who have received the relevant education abroad shall submit a copy of the nostrified diploma;
  3. research proposal of the applicant with a visa of the head of the department and a written opinion of the supervisor;
  4. a list of published scientific papers and inventions certified by the head of the department at the place of training (as well as photocopies of 2-3 publications) with the review of the supervisor. The list should include publications in professional journals and publications registered in scientometric databases;
  5. a photocopy of the passport (scan or photo);
  6. passport and diploma (originals) are submitted in person.

Entrance examinations

Entrance examinations to the University’s postgraduate studies consist of:

  • entrance examination in the speciality (within the scope of the master’s degree programme in the relevant speciality);
  • Persons entering postgraduate studies in a different field of knowledge (speciality) than the one specified in their master’s (specialist’s) diploma may be assigned additional entrance examinations.
  • an entrance exam in a foreign language in the amount corresponding to the B2 level.
  • An applicant who has confirmed his/her level of knowledge, in particular of English, with a valid certificate of TOEFL or International English Language Testing System or a certificate of Cambridge English Language Assessment is exempt from taking an entrance exam in a foreign language. When determining the results of the competition, these certificates are equated to the results of the entrance exam in a foreign language with the highest score.

The sequence of entrance examinations for postgraduate studies is as follows: additional entrance examination (if necessary), foreign language, speciality.
